Should I buy a gun?

25 Mar

So lately I’ve really been thinking if I should buy a gun. The political climate in this country is starting to worry me. With Tea baggers throwing bricks and cutting gas lines, conservative bloggers calling for the assassination of the president, and Fox “news” constantly inciting their viewers to violence, I’m afraid that the violence is only going to escalate. I’m even more worried that when the republicans take power in 2010, there is going to be a strong crackdown on human rights and other freedoms. Worse, if they do not take power in 2010, I’m pretty sure that will be the last straw. After being drunk with power for 8 years, they really can’t swallow the idea that the American people voted them out.

I’m really thinking of buy a gun to protect myself and my rights of freedom of speech and religion from right wing nuts who would take them away. Part of me on the other hand however doesn’t think that buying a gun is a good idea. Nothing good will come of it. The more the victims we are the better. When the crazy nut cases go over the brink and start wholesale shooting liberals, as I’m afraid some will do in the future, the rest of the sane world will see them for who they are; and then we win.

Glenn Beck: Ignore Jesus

9 Mar

Now even though I’m an Atheist, I agree Jesus had some good universal ideas like love thy neighbor, look after the poor, do unto others as you would have done to you, etc… Social Justice.

But apparently Glenn Beck disagrees with Jesus on social justice:

Social Justice is a code word for fascism and communism? Run from the churches that preach social justice? Seriously?

Way to Beck. Jesus and his hippie love for the less fortunate can go to hell…

Glenn Beck promotes violence

24 Feb

Glenn Beck recently spoke at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference where he claimed America’s ills were due to progressivism. Ok, that’s fine. I disagree with him greatly, but he’s a conservative. He then goes on to compare progressivism to cancer. (see the video of his talk here) Ok, so now we’re getting a little shaky. But then he dives off the deep end and says “it can’t co-exist. You must eradicate it! You must cut it out of the system!” Seriously? How are people supposed to interpret that? The way I interpret that, the way I believe most people would interpret that is an urge to use violence. “Eradicate! Cut-out! Can’t co-exist!” You may laugh, but Glenn Beck’s viewers are scared, stupid, and armed.

Take this for example. Canada is thinking about allowing people with terminal diseases to elect, of their own free will, to undergo doctor assisted suicide. Beck twists this into “euthanasia!!!!” and tells his viewers that Obama and the progressives are trying to bring this hear. “Just like the Nazi’s in the 1930’s!” “A great evil is coming! Like in the 1930’s! Are you going to stand up and do something?!?!?” A caller calls in, believing all this bullshit, scared to death that Obama is going to kill her, and Beck says HE WILL!!!

What do you expect is going to happen? Eventually some scared idiot is going to take Beck’s urge to action seriously and get their gun and do something horrible. They might shoot a government employee, be it a cop or a mailman, or they might blow up a federal building.  If an angry mob marches on Washington with guns, the situation could rapidly deteriorate. The last thing Obama should do is send in police or troops to break up the protesters. It would quickly turn to shooting, and regardless of who fired the first shoot, the Tea Party idiots would claim another Boston massacre and use it as a rallying cry for more violence. The best thing he could do would be to pull back all law enforcement officials and just let the mob go, destroying everything in their path. This way the world will see them for how crazy and violent they are. Don’t give them any martyrs.

Take the Tea Party seriously

8 Feb

I can’t stand those Tea bagger idiots, I don’t think the majority of America can either, yet we must not underestimate them. The represent a angry, ill-informed, “reality don’t matter” mob, but if we don’t take them head on, soon they will be in control of the government.

If they were serious about cutting government waste and minimizing government involvement then I’d be with them, but they’re not.  The poor bastards are being manipulated by very powerful corporations like Fox into screwing themselves over. Their messiah, Sarah Palin, is a complete fucking bimbo who believes Jebus is coming back in her life time, and that Africa is a country. How unintelligent can you get? Gah, I digress. I am overwhelmed with seething rage when I think of her.

What really gets me is that they claim to be against government involvement in people’s lives, yet what they really mean is “I want the government to leave my money alone, but at the same time I want it to police your bedroom, force your children to say my religion’s prayers in public schools, and generally just enforce my world views and morals on you!”

You really want smaller government? FINE. Then quit trying to legislate your religion into my life!!!!!

To be honest. I HATE the bailouts. Yeah our entire economy would have crashed, but maybe then we would have executed some of these big bankers who are still getting million dollar bonuses. Did conservatives get the message that repealing government safeguards on the economy causes this shit? Nope. This whole thing builds up under Bush and crashes on Obama’s head, and there is no way he could have come out ok. (Yeah, maybe in the long run our economy will be better for the bailouts, but I’d still sleep better at night if some bankers had been shot)

Oh, that’s another thing, they tea baggers are hypocrites. “It’s only a crime when a liberal does it!” Bush took fiscal conservatism and strangled it; brutally. Where were the tea party people when Bush took Clinton’s record government surplus and drove it straight through the ground with the multi-trillion dollar wars in Iraq (no connection to 9-11) and Afghanistan? Nowhere. They were silent because he is a conservative good ol’boy and was doing god’s will, just like Palin claims to be. Bullshit.

I also can’t stand the double speak they put out. “Freedom” is now a worthless word. It used to mean something, now it’s hollow and twisted. To the tea baggers, “Freedom” means letting pharmaceutical, insurance, and energy corporations royally fuck America. To them “freedom” means the ability to impose their social/religious views on the rest of the country. Shove gays back into the shadows, kick science out of schools, silence non christians, and enslave women in their own bodies. Sorry, but you don’t have the “right” or the “freedom” to do that.

Fighting these people will be difficult. The large majority of this country is un-intelligent, fickle, and gullible. If we could get them to agree that an idea is only as valid as how well it works in reality, then we could beat them. Unfortunately they don’t play by those rules. Has anyone ever said something so off the wall, so stupid, that you just gawk at them, speechless? That’s how I feel about the tea party people. It’s a challenge to take them on because you simply don’t know where to start correcting them. And worse, they take your speechlessness as proof they have a point!

As hard as it may be, we must meet them head on with reason and facts again and again, and constantly demand evidence supporting their positions. If this does not work then we must get out of the way and let them win. (Yeah, I know…) Things in America will then crash and the world will go to hell, but only then will the fucktards that voted them in start to make the connection that maybe, just maybe, reality does matter.

Should terrorists get fair trials?

9 Dec

In this short clip, FOX’s Judge Napolitano argues with Bill’O over whether the 9/11 conspirators should be given a fair trial in a NYC civilian court, or prosecuted in a military tribunal.

(I especially love the part where Bill’O admits he doesn’t care about the constitution)

From good ol’ Bill’O’s point of view, Bush declared a war on terror, therefore terrorists are enemy combatants, therefore the rights in the constitution do not apply.

If the government declares a war on terror, and that means “terrorists” are enemy combatants and thus subject to military tribunals, regardless of what the constitution demands, the extreme danger is that anyone the government declares a “terrorist” would be immediately stripped of all their rights. Bill’O has no problem doing this to some Arabs, but what if the government started prosecuting white supremacists and abortion clinic bombers in the same way? “Terrorism” does have a legal definition, and it applies to these groups as well.

Napolitano sees this, but Bill’O will have none of it. After all, Bill’O and his mindless followers are infallible, patriotic, god fearing Americans. They don’t need to be bothered by some document written hundreds of years ago.

But let me ask this: Suppose we adopted Bill’O’s view, that combatants in a war on an idea or condition (not a country) should be stripped of all rights, what would we have? What about the war on poverty? Are poor people enemy combatants? What about the war on hunger? Drugs? Crime? What about the war on Cancer?

This is where conservative readers will object: “Oh that’s ridiculous. This would only apply to terrorists! Don’t you hate terrorists?”

Yes, I hate terrorists, but if you disregard what separates us from them out of fear and hate, namely the rule of law and the constitution, then they have already one. You destroyed yourself without them firing a shot. Congratulations. No, as horrible as terrorists are, we must be better than them. We must abide by the constitution we claim to defend, even when it is most difficult and painful.

I despise fox news

15 Sep

I can’t tell you how much contempt and loathing I have for this “news” station.

Fox__Friends

These happy, smiling people are some of the most twisted, cynical deceivers on air. The people at Fox “news” consistently misrepresent the facts, and their gullible audience suffers for it. Look at this 2007 Pew research study:

“the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last:

Fox “news” claims to be fair and balanced. Ironic since nothing they do is either fair or balanced. Here, just look at this short montage of one of Fox’s favorite tactics, shutting off your opponent’s microphone:

Oh yeah, that’s fair and balanced all right. I don’t see any other actual journalists engaging in that type of behavior, and Fox does it regularly. If I tried to list all the times Fox news has either misrepresented the facts or out right lied, I’d be here all day. Just search for videos on youtube catching them in the act.  Here are the links to some examples off the top of my head:

Fox “news” purposely misrepresents health care reform as “government take over” despite what health care bill actually says. Video

Fox “news” omits facts to make it seem like school principle arrested for merely praying. Video

Fox “news” distorts facts on North Korean missile range to stoke fears. Video

Fox claims to be fair and balanced. In reality it is the most right wing station on tv and the radio.  They have two notorious hosts that stick out from the rest. Bill O’ Reilly and Glenn Beck. Here’s Bill O’ stoking the flames that eventually lead to a crazy man murdering an abortion doctor. Glenn Beck can be heard here screaming his head off on air at a woman who disagrees with him on health care reform. Real professional. After Obama won the election, good old Glenn suggested that those who didn’t vote for him succeed from the union, asking if that was possible, if it had ever been done before. Yes, it was called the Civil War and it claimed the lives of 620,000 people.

Bill O’ Reilly loves to scream down his opponents. This video is a little old, so he’s done it more times than what’s in this clip, but here he is screaming at guests who disagree with him to shut up.

Another unprofessional media tactic Fox loves to employ is ambushing people. They have attack dogs who go out and try to corner people by surprise and bombard them with loaded questions. Here are two videos of them doing it to a liberal blogger on vacation, and to Bill Moyers.

Just search for these guys on youtube and you’ll find plenty more videos of unethical and unprofessional practices.

Fox “news” is a firm believer in that if there is a crime committed, it’s done by a democrat. If it was actually done by a republican, we’ll just say he’s a democrat until someone calls us on it. Here is South Carolina gov. Mark Stanford, president of the Republican Governors’ club. He got caught sleeping with a woman who was not his wife, after he left his job for several days without telling anyone in the government. Fox labeled him as a democrat…

Fox also loves conspiracies:

conspiracy

The truly funny thing is that Fox “news” knows it’s viewers aren’t the best at critical thinking, in fact Fox is scared that their viewers can’t tell the difference between reality and a Simpsons cartoon. I wish I was kidding.

The sad thing is that all this manipulation and lies from Fox “news” has a real effect on the people watching. It actively misinforms an audience that is easy to scare and quick to anger.

(In case you don’t know, the sign the man with the gun is holding is quoting Thomas Jefferson; “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.” Pray tell, who is this tyrant who’s blood needs to be spilt to water the tree of liberty?

MobL

Yep, that’s right. Obama is somehow linked to 9/11. He’s a muslim terrorist that wasn’t born in America and he’s here to take your bibles, guns, and money; at least if you watch Fox.

(ps. There was an entire documentary done a few years back on Fox’s tactics called “Out Foxed”. Go check them out.)
