The emotions of god

25 May

God is often described as having very human emotions, greed, wrath, love, envy, etc. Does it ever strike you as weird considering how many theists claim that their god is perfect and unchanging?

Furthermore, if god is all-knowing, how can he/she/it get angry when something does not happen the way he/she/it wishes? Being angry implies that you were surprised that something acted somehow differently from what you wanted. How can a perfect all-knowing god be surprised by something?

Would he not have foreseen that X was going to happen the way it did? And had it upset him enough could he not have changed it?

Whenever theists rant on about how sinners make god angry, it just makes me roll my eyes. Do they not stop and think about how petty they are making their god sound by attributing very human emotions to him/her/it?

To answer your ,God gets angry because He set a standard for us and we as people insist on breaking the rules thus,God gets angry with us.God does’nt wish that we obey, He commands us to.Again,God is not suprised by the things we do, He gets upset when we break the rules when we know better. This life is free will,God does’nt force Himself on anyone. We as christians make God angry also. Those that say that they do’nt are not telling the truth. We are all still trying to make it to heaven. No one has made it in yet.

But how can he be angry if he knew that was going to happen? What did he expect? Is he even able of expecting anything if he knows what’s going to happen? It’s like poking a hole in your cup and then getting mad that the cup won’t hold water.

“God does’nt wish that we obey, He commands us to.” “This life is free will,God does’nt force Himself on anyone.” I see a contradiction there. How is commanding us to do something not forcing his will on us? “Do it or burn in hell forever” isn’t really letting someone make a free choice…..

They just don’t make sense, do they?

Plus since if God is the creator of space and time, he HAS to be OUTSIDE space and time, and they’re saying that an entity outside of space and time will display human characteristics AND emotions.

    Just doesn’t make sense.

He can be angry because He knows that we his children(those that follow Him)know the rules He has set before us.How is that a contradiction? It’s simple really,God is not going to MAKE anyone worship Him. We have to WANT to live right and to please Him.”How is commanding us to do something not forcing His will on us?”Easy. He commands us,but then it’s still up to us to want to please Him and live according to the rules.

it’s still up to us to want to please Him and live according to the rules…..or burn in hell forever. Does it not bother you that god has such flawed human emotions? Does it not make you wonder if we created him in our image instead of the other way around? I’d think an all-powerful god would be above such petty things like jealousy and anger.

You are right,it is up to us.But why risk your eternity?Gos is not flawed,he never contradicts Himself.Man is to destructive and selfdestructive to create a loving anything let alone a God.At times we do try to make God into what we want Him to be but it does’nt work that way.God does’nt compromise. He’s the master we are the student. Not the other way around.

Why are you risking your eternity? There are THOUSANDS of other possible gods out there with just as much evidence/prophecy as yours. You’re risking eternity just as much as I am. And god doesn’t contradict himself? Have you read the bible? Heck, he even had to kill himself (Jesus) as a sacrifice to himself (the father) because he changed his mind on what he had originally done (The old testament)!

Yes POSSIBLE gods but not the true and wise God.My eternity is sealed because i believe in THE ONLY GOD.God is not a man that He changes His mind.He is the only God that has been since creation.God has not been created like these other Gods,he is the creator not a carbon copy like these others.
